Rotary's Sgambati Golf Tournament

Due to COVID-19 our 2021 Tournament has been cancelled.  Please check back for details about our 2022 tournament.

It has been 44 years since Fred Sgambati played in the first Sgambati golf tournament for the benefit of cancer related projects and Rotary charities.

Mr. Sgambati was one of Canada’s best known television sportscasters before his death in 1979, a victim of cancer. He fought the disease with great determination for nearly five years. His insistence on being part of the Vanier Cup broadcast only a few days before his death was just one example of his determination. As Chairman of the Canadian Cancer Society fund raising committee, Fred helped organize the Sgambati golf tournaments that had their start in many locations in 1977. Since his death, the tournament has been held annually in his memory. The over one million dollars raised by the Burlington tournament is a testament to a great figure in Canadian sports history.

The “Sgambati” is one of the most enjoyable and prestigious golf tournaments. It has raised over $1,500,000 in the past 40+ years.

The “Sgambati” is an event whose total proceeds go toward helping worthwhile charities and causes within our community. We of the Rotary club of Burlington Inc. are proud to have supported the Canadian Cancer Society, the Burlington Community Hospice Project, The McMaster Pediatrics Radiation Cancer Centre, The YMCA and other Rotary charities. The “Sgambati” takes place at the exclusive Burlington Golf & Country Club, a course offering a spectacular 18-hole championship layout along Burlington Bay.
